Student Support Centre

Welcome to our student support centre.

Our centre provides you with resources and information to support you throughout your program.  Please browse through our resources and links to become familiar with our office and supports!

What can we do for you?

We can help you with financial, personal, and academic issues and can assist in pointing the way for physical and mental health problems. We also provide support for all kinds of student initiatives and ideas and charitable projects.  We are here for you! Student Affairs is a good place to start looking for help with just about anything in medical school.
We want to encourage you to be proactive in addressing any problems or issues you may be experiencing.  If we are unable to help you directly we will provide you with contacts and direction regarding other sources of support that you may access.  We provide confidential support and advocacy to all undergraduate students at “arm’s length” from the academic offices.

When should you contact us?

You should contact us any time you have a question, problem or concern, particularly if you feel that it is likely to have an adverse effect on your program and academic success.

What are some areas we help in?
Common areas students may need advice or help finding additional appropriate resources:

  • Balancing life (family, education, other) and medicine

  • How you deal/cope with stress?

  • Difficulties that have arisen in your life (or the lives of others) related to medical school

  • Study skills

  • What students can do now to explore different career options in medicine?

  • ]CaRMS matching – how it works, how to develop references, book electives, etc

  • Leave of absence – for personal or illness reasons
